People who don't realise solar roadways are bullstuff.

People who don't realise solar roadways are bullstuff.

oh god

the longer it goes on the more stupid it gets

    • The selectively militant religious (evangelical and fundamentalist christians are examples) and non-religious (most people on r/atheism for example).
"anyone who doesn't believe in my religion is stupid!"

there are pretentious douchebags on both sides, but let's face it.  There isn't a single religion consistently historically or fundamentally accurate, so how in the forget are they ever correct?  Oh, that's right, they're not.

This isn't fedora stuff, this is "hey, guys, 2 + 2 is 4, why do you think it's 5?" stuff.[/list]

People who don't realise solar roadways are bullstuff.

if it weren't for the price it'd be far from bullstuff

    but holy stuff the price

if the price were lower it'd still be bullstuff to me

looking at some of the comments on that video bring up some good points on why

the part where the guy talks about how snow/ice would melt off of it. What if it's cloudy? Wouldn't the snow end up messing with it? I doubt it'd melt before the sun is out for a while

also, the thing about deer/whatever crosses the road - fairly sure on a pretty dark day, seeing a couple small lights in the distance next to a long line of other glowing lights, the small lights wouldn't be too noticeable.

plus, vandalism is also most likely gonna be an issue.

plus plus, what if they end up getting scratched/worn out? what about severe weather?

plus plus bonus (this one is purely my own opinion); I really like the way things look now. I would hate to see things like plazas to be replaced with some dark-colored tiles that glow in the night. Now, they'd maybe be cool some places, but i don't want everything to be replaced with them. I can see these being in places like indoor arcades or fun places like that for people but definitely not streets or everywhere

the only issue I see with it is cost and vandalism, if it's cloudy solar panels will still work, didn't he say that it heats up to melt the snow or something

Here's why solar roadways loving suck

    Snow
There's no way that the solar panels could actually generate enough heat to melt snow. Heating one 1 liter of water from 10 °C to 30 °C needs ~84 kJ. It'd be impossible for solar panels to generate this amount of energy to melt all the snow on the roadway. We have snowplows for a reason, so we don't have to spend trillions of dollars on melting all the snow in America. Also, glass is slippery enough, wet glass might as well be an ice rink for cars.

    Lighting the road
We have cats eyes and car headlights. We made these specifically so we wouldn't have to light up every single piece of the road when nobody is using that particular part of the road. So, we light up the most important and immediate part of the road, the part that is in-front of the car.

    Glass panels
You could never emergency stop an 18 wheeler on glass. It is simply not going to happen. The "testing" they did for traction requirements was done with a tractor on a driveway. Also, since the panels are separate units, there is going to be an issue with differential loading, in which panels will come loose.

    Radical tron LED lights
You cannot see LED lights in bright daylight. Also, why the forget would we need to have dynamic road lines on highways that have remained the same for decades? Also, light pollution is a big enough problem on Earth right now.

    Cost
The glass required, the glass ALONE, would bankrupt America. This is not including LED, wifi, solar panel and maintenance costs.

    Power transport
Solar roadways send electricity underneath ALL ROADS IN THE USA. Here is a map of the U.S. powergrid, which is already a huge pain in the ass:

Now imagine running these transmitting cables underneath EVERY SINGLE ROAD IN AMERICA

    /rant over
sorry, i just get really fired up that these guys received +$1,000,000 USD and it'll all probably go to stripclubs and beer

and somebody would hack the computer controlling the lights and the next thing you know you're dividing the road in two with a giant carrot

What they might try doing is building an overhang over every road in the USA and putting solar panels ontop of that. Still expensive as forget, but not a 1/10th of the cost, and it would keep snow off the roads completely.

People who don't realise solar roadways are bullstuff.

"why isnt this on the news"

    Also why would you donate?

there's a reason we have snow plows, those salt trucks, etc.

you are a gross human being lol
    >Women are women, regardless of love
    >Men are men regardless of love
Your love is the thing that makes you a woman/man, you can't just be one because of "Muh feels"
Also, the people who are stuffting themselves over Ubisoft right now

    -snip-
They have a FaQ that has some points against that, but you will probably state they are also bullstuff anyway.

I like to believe that future would actually happen. but oh well, 1 million for hiring crew only? Also, even if murica got all the roadways, europe would be told to go forget themselves anyway.

I agree with this poster. Realism over some science nerd's wet dream.

Also all those fat priviledge people make me mad.
"Why don't you try to exercise."
    >"Because I have bad legs and thyroid problems."
maybe they would have thyroid and leg problems if they didn't eat terribly and put all that stress on their body from their own body weight.

then they through excused at you like "its my body", "genetics", and "shouldn't have to conform to society". Well unfortunately if you like a hippo and can't walk, then that is your fault because for centuries humans have been thin and only until recently have humans in general have gotten fatter. Also at the same time have people been consuming more junk food over healthier food. It may also be their body and their choice, but that doesn't mean they have the right to ignore the consequences of treating their bodies like stuff and then later complain about all the problems that they inflicted on it.
