FYI the bug should now be fixed.

What's his IP? I would like to ban him from my servers.
That's sooooo easy to find. But IP address blocks have little to no effect anyways because of VPN's and mobile tethering.

Also remember that if you IP-ban Pacnet, you also are banning me (which is unfair). Just block the BL_ID.

Not my problem your sibling/cousin/family/friend used your IP to be a handicap.

IP bans are a bad idea in general. Due to the limited amount of IPs IPv4 has, a majority of people have dynamic IPs. Reset modem. Suddenly new IP. Some other innocent person has to reset due to technical difficulty, gets new IP, that new IP happens to be the banned IP. Congrats. You've now banned a completely innocent person and the guilty person gets away.

This is why we have a key system. IP logging is fine. But in no way should you just ban the IP.

Pacnet/Hammereditor has so many keys that just banning the ID would be useless.

The chances the new person has Blockland is very slim.

However, possible.

Just very very very very very very unlikely.

Much less than the amount of free VPN services, right? Pacnet only has one BL_ID and I have 3 BL_ID's. You're better off just banning "70227" and leaving the IP address alone. I have not done anything wrong for the last 7 months.

You do realize the chance of this happening is ilterally one in 4 billion right

Actually the chance is 1 in 4 billion for every person with a dynamic IP every single time it changes, assuming all IPv4 addresses are dynamic and that they are completely random. And 3,999,999,999/4,000,000,000 with that math that a person who got IP banned will be banned no longer if they have a dynamic IP and their IP changes.

Regardless of the odds of a dynamic user getting unfairly blocked, IP-address banning doesn't really have any effect because it's the age of mobile devices and broadband. It's so easy to use a VPN or mobile connection, so you might as well not be banning them at all. It's probably much easier to ban Pacnet's BL_ID (70227) than our IP address.

If you've got a more accurate figure then please present it, but my point still stands.
