Either a virus/other process was hogging resources and hiding itself as a system process, or a hidden windows process went haywire and rebooting probably the only thing to be done about it. Do a malwarebytes scan if you're paranoid.

my computer is weird like that
when i leave it for a long time, i come back and everything goes to stuff exactly like this
but if i use it for an entire day nothing screws over

if you leave your computer constantly on it could be ram that leaked and won't clear.
Restart the computer to fix that problem.
