Author Topic: Dedicated hosting?  (Read 4962 times)

I have one simple question: How did hammerhoast and CMB do it?

hammer stole the source codes for blockland

Well the reason i asked this question, was to see if I could provide servers for my friends. I have a large HP Workstation xw6400 with countless custom parts. This might at least provide me with enough to host a few servers. Is it as simple as copying the dedicated server and changing the ports? Or would it be harder then that?

It's as simple as copying the dedicated server (aka, entire game), and changing the ports.

To start dedicated, just add -dedicated

Really! Thats good to know. Why aren't there more hosts then?

Because hosting (dedicated) requires
  • A good computer
  • A Fast internet connection
  • A basic understanding of computer networking

Which most people don't have

No like i mean sites like Nfo servers or gameservers.com

Because most blockland servers die out within a week and a half. People dont want to pay for a server if the server will loose popularity quickly.

If you want to start a hosting service, be prepared for the DDoS attacks!

Interesting, who is doing it anyways?

There are ways (can't remember sorry) to make your router reject ping requests. Or at least reduce the maximum bytes the router will accept for ping requests.
