Depends on what the food is.
If it's something I can easily make myself, I'll do it at home. I'm not going to pay good money just to have someone else cook something that I can easily do just as good, if not better, job at.
But things that I don't have the ingredients, tools, or skills for, I'll eat out instead. Mostly ethnic cuisines, especially if I want to try something I've never had before, I'll try it at a good restaurant, then I can make it at home and know if it tastes off.
