Author Topic: I guess Time Warner Cable has a terrible modem/router thing  (Read 834 times)

we've recently moved from the outskirts of some tiny baby city in Alabama to Louisville, Kentucky
that means switching from terrible satellite internet and TV to better cable internet and TV, specifically, Time Warner
when we moved here, we ordered a router, because we thought we'd need one! cable companies generally give you a modem, but the router's on you. but it turns out, apparently, TWC has this weird modem and router combo thing
that seems pretty cool and convenient! the only problem is, the router bit is terrible

see this??

that's using the wifi that comes with the router

this, however

that's using an ethernet cable from the box to my computer

and I tested them like three times each, so it's not like it's just a coincidence
idk what we're gonna do exactly. I guess we're gonna use our own router, that we ordered before, plugged into the port on the modem/router thing?
hopefully it works out though. because that's annoying

also.... the router problem only seems to start happening sometime at night. most of the time, it's fine. idk what to think of that

wait did you get permabanned or something?

YOU DID, YOU DIRTY DOG

He posted research in the furry thread again.

ethernet is always going to be faster than wireless...

you seriously think it's gonna make that much of a difference

also the wifi isn't consistent when this happens, at all. like. one second, it could be just fine, like, 30mbps, then the next, it's at a couple hundred kbps, then it's back to 4mbps, and it goes on and on for idk how long

yes, actually
from my room i get ~90 MB/s transferring files from my NAS or vice versa
from my laptop (wifi only) its roughly 3 MB/s

We used to have Time Warner but their cable service got really bad, and the Internet speeds were so poor. We have FiOS now.

Isn't Time Warner linked to Comcast in some way? Like business-wise or something?

comcast is trying to purchase twc

Huh. I thought I saw an ad or something somewhere that said TWC was turning into Comcast or something along those lines.

But that was a really long time ago, like when Comcast was just coming around.

well basically yeah thats whats gonna happen if it goes through

This is my result when using wireless. At least I'm fine with the ping.

we dont have TWC in canada i think.

although its not amazing speeds, they're much better than your old speeds.
