VT is a gorgeous state.

Vermont is nice for tourists, but there isn't much to do if you live here. Besides spending a boat load of money on things meant for tourists.

I live in Salem Oregon.

It's smallish and in the middle of America's Great Plains.  Which, despite the name, are really not so great.  It's pretty goddamn boring here actually.  Mostly there's a lot of flat land and corn.  Oh, and the weather completes the full spectrum from sweat-your-balls-off hot in summer, to freeze-your-balls-off cold in winter.
