You exit the (now empty for some reason) Scientist's Bunker. What the hell happened to the Zone? Why the hell is it SNOWING?

A familar voice starts to yell, and the guy shoots the door twice with his shotgun, sending it flying.

You discover Dave the trader, and he drops you a Makarov before departing for some weird reason.

The hacker doesn't know a damn thing about what happened to the Zone, but he can tell you that some guys took over and he was ambushed by bandits and mutants, and that he was the only survivor because he activated buddha mode, and now has 1 HP. Seeing as he has now outlived his usefulness, you shoot him in the spine, crippling him.
