Author Topic: When will Blockland support steam workshop?  (Read 1751 times)

Hey guys, I am starting to get back in to blockland and now that there is no RTB its kinda annoying to go to forums and find add-ons in this pile of mess.
There is literally almost no organization in the add-on folder, for example i can not categorize them in to small groups like weapons, vehicles, misc, sounds, etc.
Why are we still doing this garbage? Why is there no steam workshop support considering that Blockland is very heavy on mods and the community?

This is stupid and this is not a problem we should ignore because this pile of mess is only growing bigger week by week with more "add-ons" or mods on this forum when this should be on steam greenlight with much better organization and ease of downloading........

Is it because of the engine? Would it be hard to support steam green-light but I doubts due to many indie developers supporting it like G-mod,octodad,and much more.

When will Blockland have a dedicated server which works with Steam users? When will Blockland have new features? When will Blockland have a workshop? When will the DDoS attacks stop?

Honestly greenlight support would be a lot easier than those. Its just why are we posting stuff on the forums, its shooting the community in the foot, considering now all the new members and members that came in the past 6 months (which is a lot)  are centered around steam so it would make sense if the blockland mod community be put on steam too. Who the hell on here does not have a steam account? And even if you don't agree with those reasons, the add-on forums is utter stuff here compared to greenlight!

Steam workshop would  be bad because there's no way to truly moderate the content that will be put on there as far as I can remember, which was one of the defining points of why we weren't going to have Workshop in the first place during the greenlight phase. Besides that, Workshop is an utter stuffhole for mod devs because it refuses to work 99% of the time, especially when attempting to apply updates.

Would you prefer having your addons work, or having to spend time finding them?

From my experience with workshop, most mods work fine....

Do you make mods and upload them to workshop?

No...but theirs a lot of people uploading and making them for workshop so I don't think its a big enough problem for most people....

Well shut up then. He was talking about mod authors. Also, most deal with it because it's the only option.

Here's an easy solution to the problem:
ORGANIZE THE ADD-ONS TOPIC INTO MANY SUBFORUMS.
Seriously, Badspot, this is very important. We need it to be categorized into these things:
  • Bots
  • Bricks
  • Weapons
  • Vehicles
  • Clientside
  • Serverside
  • Colorsets
  • Environments
  • Decals and Faces
  • Prints
  • Events
  • Gamemodes
  • Items and Tools
  • Lights
  • Particles
  • Playertypes
  • Scripts
  • Sounds
  • Support Addons
  • Miscellaneous stuff

All of these should be subforums of the topic, and the Add-Ons forum itself should be locked.
That will make it a million times easier to find and manage add-ons and I will love you forever, baddie. no homo

That's actually a pretty good idea, but it'd clutter the 'files' section.
Then again, you can collapse/expand sections so I guess it's not too much of a problem.

iirc badspot said that he wanted workshop support but he wasn't sure about it or something along those lines

-snip-
The only issue is that there would be ~2600 topics to move manually

Don't move them manually though?
The old add-ons section will stay locked, none of the add-ons will have to be moved. The add-on creators will be tasked with that though.

I meant manually as in every each one would have to be categorized

There's quite a lot of add-on makers who posted their add-on and left the game after some time, so there would be a good amount of add-ons which would be just left in the un-sorted locked add-on board.
Either way, even if there would be help on moving topics from the community, 2600+ topics is pretty big amount.

We literally just told you. You cannot moderate the Workshop. End of story.
