Author Topic: So what do you do?  (Read 3087 times)

I bought blockland on steam, and so far, it has been pretty disappointing. There is nothing to do in this game. I tried the building, but you have to individually place every single block. It would take hours to build even a crap shack. Am I missing something, or is the game really like this?

It doesn't take that long to build >:o

Also, the duplorcator makes some builds go faster

Once you get the controls memorized, building can be a breeze.  Also make sure you adjust settings to maximize Too-Far Distance.

its loving easy and fast to build, hell, I could build a two-story house in less then 55-60 minutes.
try downloading some add-ons from the add-on board to make the game more fun, or like lego lad said, join a server.

Play the Tutorial. Click start a game on the main menu and choose the Tutorial game mode. It'll teach you the controls and everything.

You don't have to individually place each block, you shift the brick around with the numpad (or some other buttons on the right side of the keyboard in the same configuration if you don't have one). Take a look in the controls. Everything is there.

You joined the forum 5 years ago and you're just now discovering the game?

Anyway, play the tutorial, and get some add-ons such as the Duplorcator. Play a freebuild server if you want to practice building.

your only limit is yourself

The game isn't for everyone.
I'd suggest joining another server and try to see how that goes. If you think building takes too long to accomplish anything, I'd suggest getting to know somebody and building something together.

I myself still haven't finished some of my projects from years ago, but that doesn't mean I automatically think the game is boring. Most of the players I've met online are great people and are fun to chat with on occasions. There is also an event system to experiment with if you're into that sort of thing.

TL;DR: Building takes quite a lot of dedication and patience, but, the longer you build the better you get.

I haven't really played in a while, so I'd be more than happy to host a private server and build with you. Feel free to PM me if you want.

I don't get the environment feel that I get from a game like minecraft. It's just empty baseplates and disjointed creations.

minecraft was originally created with the idea of survival AND open sandbox construction put together. it has an atmosphere because that's what the developers were aiming at.

blockland has a much more empty atmosphere because players are given their own control of it. the build you make and the environment settings can be customized so many different ways that it makes blockland a much broader sandbox game than minecraft.

in fact, get this: with time and effort you could remake minecraft in blockland. you can't do it the other way around.

you expected a sandbox building game to have an environment?
It's much more open-ended than that. Blockland doesn't have a theme or a setting or a goal, It lets you to make whatever you want. If you want a specific theme or atmosphere, look or feel, structure or character, go ahead and build it yourself.

Kind of curious why OP is posing as a steam buyer when his original key dates back to 2009.

Didn't notice that. I only looked at his profile date, which says:
