I begin a counter-maneuver, firing more cannonfire along the way.
The Jaguar remains behind you but is incapable of keeping up due to the damaged fuselage. It stalls and is unable to recover, as the pilot ejects. The aircraft slams into the ground with a crunch and some munition catch fire relatively harmlessly.
attempt to dive under cloud level to loose prusuers and regain vision
"I'm dropping through the clouds, some guys migght be following me after, shoot down those bogies if they are!"
The three aircraft are still tailing you, albeit at a slightly larger distance. Cannon fire streaks past your roosterpit, tracers blazing. Fortunately these guys aren't very good at aiming.
I lock onto the damaged Jaguar I'm facing, leading slightly before firing a heatseeker and an extended burst of cannon fire. I pull on the stick and break off to get infrared locks onto one of the two Jaguars that scrapped my missile shots earlier.
"Hey Cage, if you can get them in front of me, I'll be able to get a shot off on them" I look at my radar screen before looking for the rest of the squadron. "The rest of the flight is engaged."
I hit the throttle as the familiar tone of a successful lock-on chimes solidly in my ears and release the heatseeker from my wing, prepared to fire another.
The Jaguar is unable to dodge the heatseeker and has about half of it blown away. The pilot ejects, only to be hit by the burst of cannon fire. A lucky shot (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) hits the pilot. He is rendered very not alive.
In addition the heatseeker slams into one of the Viggens tracing Cage, forcing the other two craft out of formation. This alleviates a lot of pressure from your comrade, stopping the cannon fire.
Simon attempts to stay on the Jaguar's tail as he locks on the enemy jet once again and fires a missile.
The aircraft was heading towards you, and dumps flares as it flies directly at you, evading the missile. It appears to be playing chicken.
I look in the mirror to find the Viggens persistently glued in place. stuff. Can't out-climb them, can't out-dive them. If I make a turn to try and shake one off, the other will come back around to bite me. My eyes wander from the HUD down to the red safety cover on the front console. The alpha limiter toggle...
Bright tracers fly past the canopy, and the missile approach warning tone fills my ears once again. I guess it's a little too early to be consider pulling an ace in the hole. Here we go.
"Cowboy, defending inbound Fox 2!"
I do my best to pull away from the gunfire with a slight turn. After about two seconds, I quickly roll the aircraft upside-down and pitch into a high-G turn, popping flares to trash the missile.
You are pushed into your chair and it is assumed that it in incredibly uncomfortable. The missile whiffs past with a relatively wide berth of 1.3 meters, and the Viggens overshoot their course. The two planes attempt to turn back around, relatively slowly.
