Pretty much the title here. I got $1000 for my graduation gift to spend on a laptop for myself and I have no idea what I should get.

does it have to be a laptop?

buy a gaming desktop PC

edit: get the forget out.
I'm not trying to stir stuff up but whats so bad about desktops?

I already have a nice desktop, I'd like a laptop for university & personal use.

that clears it up

I have no suggestions honestly but to clear even more things up what are you going to do with your new-to-be laptop (less broad than university & personal use please and thank)

He's probably going off to college soon. Anyways, I bought the Lenovo Y510P. Spent around $1500 on it but it's worth it. I'm sure it will do the job for me in college next year.

Just something for general day-to-day use, I'm hoping for something that will make the most of the $1k with good HD space, something capable of playing less intensive games, isn't too heavy and will last a while. I can't emphasize enough that the limit is $1000, if it's just $50 more my parents may be okay with that but much more I seriously doubt.

No offense but with $1500 you would of been better off with a much more reliable MacBook Pro. It's all about preference though.

what about $50.01 over the budget?

I used a "Acer | Aspire V2" before my current computer, it was pretty great for handling things, I'd recommend it and its way under $1000, but of course you might want to but something more pricey considering you have 1k dollars
