Author Topic: I just got $1000 for a laptop, what should I get?  (Read 6181 times)

I already have a nice desktop, I'd like a laptop for university & personal use.

Get yourself a nice thinkpad.

Get something that can do both gaming and work

Stop.

surface pro 3

These are actually really cool. I was able to play Blockland and such on the Dell Venue 8 Pro, which is basically four generations behind this. The only issue here would be storage, but you can just buy a huge SD card to put in it for extra storage.

No offense but with $1500 you would of been better off with a much less reliable MacBook Pro.
It's also not a good idea to spend too much $ on Apple products because they're cheaply manufactured and Apple charges a huge markup on them. Also keep in mind much more applications are written for Windows.
Plus the price-to-performance ratio of non-Macintosh computers is at least double that of a Macbook's.

I'm eyeballing that GX60 38E-240, that forgeter would wreck almost any game, and there are a lot of really good cheaper options too

it's MSi so you know you're going to get a well-built system, their gaming laptops are legendary, and of course you have the benefit of customizing your system to fit your needs + not having a stuffload of bloatware loaded on it when you buy it

i would say a ThinkPad is also a good option, but unfortunately I haven't used a Lenovo ThinkPad, only IBM-branded ones, so I can't speak for the models that are currently available

you're probably the type of person who refuses to wear designer clothes for the same reasons lol

windows still has a majority of the market share, it's pretty obvious that more software will be developed with it mind. there's also a good amount of professional software that have versions on both operating systems.

Those also look very good... I might try to get my dad to opt into buying this even though it's from an american site.

ya stinkin' canadian  :cookieMonster:

Everytime someone makes a laptop thread people stuff desktop everywhere. my main computer is a desktop but when people specifically ask for a laptop it usually means...they want a laptop.
Glass, you're always coming out as a goddamn starfish when you reply to people who say something you don't like. Would you stop? The guy just said "get a gaming desktop" and you immediately jump on him going "get the forget out".

ohey they have a canadian warranty included for free :cookieMonster: well there goes my dad's only reason to not buy american

Pffft hahaha. I'm not saying to get a Apple but what you said is loving stupid. My MacBook Pro has so far lasted me 3 years and still works just fine, I also dropped it a few times and nothing cracked/broke.

Oh and I still get a good 8 hour battery life out of the thing 3 years later. So don't go bashing their laptops saying how bad/cheapy they are.
Anti-Apple bandwagon holy hell.

The reason I jumped at him is because every single laptop thread on this forum gets posts such as "get a desktop" "desktops are love, desktops are life". So yea, i'm going to immediately say "get the forget out".

I mean stuff, go look up my Espio drama I made. He dragged on my laptop thread for like 6 pages bashing laptops.
