Why do you want to review addons?
I would like to review addons to give the community better addons and ones that are not malicious, or not well written. I also see large improvements from the website, and wish to help make it better by improving the content of the site itself.

What are your methods for testing addons?

I normally use a program outside of Blockland to check for syntax errors, then I actually look through the code myself. After that, I run the addon with a vanilla copy of blockland (no other addons besides default and this). After that, I check for console spam (eg the creator putting to many echos), and things of the sort.

How can you tell if they are broken or not?

If they have syntax errors proven by one of my 2 methods shown above, or if they just have no functionality at all.

Are you willing to take 5 - 10 hours out of your week to test addons?

Yes, of course. I don't have much going on these days, and I've decided to start dedicating most of my time in Blockland to creating addons and coding, rather than building/fighting.

Do you promise you will not abuse your powers?

Yes, definitely. If I did so, I wouldn't be able to review addons, and see what the community will bring.

If you see that the addons are in the wrong category, will you put them in the right ones?

Yes, I would do so, because it doesn't really make sense having a client - sided addon in a Server_Asdf script.

Will you respond to reports from broken addons?

Yes, and I will try to see if I can fix it myself, and if I can, that means that the creator can.

Do you have any other skills that will help you test the addons?

Yes, I am a scripter/coder and add-on creator myself, and I hope to use that knowledge to be able to put the right addons in their rightful place.

I uploaded an Add-On to test this sytem, and it put it right into the list of Add-Ons on the website, but the file is corrupt. If it does this before they're accepted you should not put it on the list.

Also you should have an area for a bigger description and images when you're uploading something maybe?

Sorry, that was a bug. Its not supposed to be listed, as it is in a different directory, causing it to download a falsified file.

The files that users upload are no longer visible in the search page.

Why do you want to review add-ons?
I'd like to review add-ons because it'd be fun and it'd be really cool to see all of the new add-ons coming out.

What are your methods on testing add-ons?
Client sided: Give the code a thorough look(including GUIs), checking for backdoors along the way. Remove all of my client sided add-ons. Look at any GUIs. Make sure everything functions as it's supposed to. Check for syntax errors/console errors/console spam. Add in all of my client sided add-ons and test it again.

Server sided: Give the code a thorough look, checking for backdoors along the way. Start a server with only the add-on + default add-ons. Make sure everything functions. Make sure the add-on is quality and not just a piece of useless garbage. Check for syntax errors/console errors/console spam.

How can you tell if they are broken or not?
Check the console for any error messages, make sure it's all working a it's supposed to, make sure an update from Badspot hasn't broken it, and give the code a thorough look.

Are you willing to take at least 5-10 hours out of your week to test and review addons?
Yeah. Totally. I've got the time.

Do you promise that you will not abuse your powers?
Yes. I don't even see why anyone would. As There is nothing to gain from it.

If you see that the addons are in the wrong category, will you put them in the right ones?
Yeah. Kind of implied in the job.

Will you respond to reports from broken add-ons?
Of course.

Do you have any other skills that will help you test the add-ons?
I know plenty of TorqueScript. Picked it up soon after joining Blockland... so I've been doing it for at least a few years. Some of my work: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=243057.0

Why do you want to review addons?
I want to help out one way or another for this website to take off. It sounds like a very promising project and I can already see some actual progress.

What are your methods on testing addons?
Check code, test in-game, check console for errors, etc.

How can you tell if they are broken or not?
Syntax errors, broken functionality, console spam

Are you willing to take at least 5-10 hours out of your week to test and review addons?
Yeah. I don't have many things going on right now anyway.

Do you promise that you will not abuse your powers?
I promise.

If you see that the addons are in the wrong category, will you put them in the right ones?
Isn't that part of my job as an add-on reviewer?

Will you respond to reports from broken addons?
Ofcourse.

Optional: Do you have any other skills that will help you test the addons?
I'm an add-on creator myself and I know torquescript well enough.

Please elaborate on some of the questions, you're very vague.
Considered.

Why do you want to review addons?
Because it sounds fun, and because I want to contribute to this project. This isnt fun, this is hard work no one wants to do unless they volunteer knowing whats ahead of them. It looks like your in it for the fame. "Hey guys im part of the staff in Blockland Pitstop!"

What are your methods on testing addons?
How can you tell if they are broken or not?

I give the code a thorough check in notepad++, then I test it in-game, on a vanilla server.
I will test all of the features of the add-on in different situations, checking every possible combination of circumstances for broken features.

Are you willing to take at least 5-10 hours out of your week to test and review addons?
Of course.

Do you promise that you will not abuse your powers?
I promise that I will never abuse my power of an add-on reviewer.

If you see that the addons are in the wrong category, will you put them in the right ones?
This is a given, I knew this would be one of my jobs even before reading the app.

Will you respond to reports from broken addons?
Yes, I will keep a vigilant watch over the reports.

Optional: Do you have any other skills that will help you test the addons?
I've coded for a while, and have a very nice understanding of torquescript.

Why do you want to review addons?
I believe that the forums makes it difficult to just browse add-ons, and a new system is needed. One that's easier for Blockheads to use, and I believe this system can give back to the community easily.

What are your methods for testing addons?
I would look through the code for anything suspicious or malicious, then start it up on vanilla Blockland to check for syntax errors, and I test it on Vanilla as well as Blockland full of add-ons, to see if anything conflicts.

How can you tell if they are broken or not?
If it has a syntax error or doesn't perform the promised task.

Are you willing to take 5 - 10 hours out of your week to test addons?
Yes, I need something to do, I often find myself playing in codes more often than building.

Do you promise you will not abuse your powers?
Yes, I believe abusing a power like this would be rather stupid. To let an opportunity like this go like that.

If you see that the addons are in the wrong category, will you put them in the right ones?

Yes, Blockland Pitstop is a place to browse add-ons, so shouldn't they actually be in the proper spot?

Will you respond to reports from broken addons?
Yes, if I find that it's broken, I'd notify the creator. Then see what they would do, if they need help, I'll help them fix it. If they just shrug it off, then so be it.

Do you have any other skills that will help you test the addons?
I'm a scripter/coder, as I've been learning Torque for the past few years while playing. And I have to say this year has been the greatest advancement on me learning.

Yes, I believe abusing a power like this would be rather stupid. To let an opportunity like this go like that.

What opportunity?

Why do you want to review addons?
Without people to check addons for quality, the system would be flooded with sub par addons that may or may not function.
This could stop new players from playing further.

What are your methods for testing addons?
Run the mod on a default Blockland Server to see if the console says anything or if the mod works as intended.
Also gotta check the base files for errors/backdoors. Don't want any of those.

How can you tell if they are broken or not?
If the console starts blaring warnings, or if the mod does not do what it was supposed to.

Are you willing to take 5 - 10 hours out of your week to test addons?
Of course. I do that already playing Blockland, the time is there and so is the interest.

Do you promise you will not abuse your powers?
Yes. The job is a job and should be treated as such.

If you see that the addons are in the wrong category, will you put them in the right ones?
Yes I would. Categorization is important. Don't want a messy interface.

Will you respond to reports from broken addons?
Yes. Any errors would be reported so that the author can fix them as soon as they can.

Do you have any other skills that will help you test the addons?
Ive worked with addons before, mainly testing beta addons for specific projects.

Edit: Has the BLP Client been released yet?
« Last Edit: July 24, 2014, 01:40:16 PM by Mr.Noßody »

  • Know how to open a .zip file
  • Some knowledge with TorqueScript (to find malicious stuff like backdoors)
i am 100% positive anyone who knows torquescript and wants to be an addon reviewer can open a zip file
why is this even a requirement. who DOESNT know how to open one[/list]

Hey everyone. The fact that everyone wants to help out really makes this project better. Thank you all!

Which questions should I elaborate on?

What are your methods for testing addons?

How can you tell if they are broken or not?

Just put some more description into those answers.

No it is not, I have to finish the website before I can move onto the client.

Why do you want to review addons?
The site seems like it may be a decent slate for users to host their add-ons. Since I haven't got much on my plate recently, It'd be fun to moderate which Add-Ons get in, and which badly written/stuffty/malicious Add-Ons get held.

What are your methods for testing addons?
Do a scan-through for syntax errors, and I'll read the code (with my own eyes) to make sure it's not too badly written, or that there are no malicious intents or backdoors nestled in.

How can you tell if they are broken or not?
Pretty obviously. If the code is deformed, or if the functionality is disrupted or spits out a syntax error when being ran.

Are you willing to take 5 - 10 hours out of your week to test addons?
I don't see why not, It's the middle of summer so I already do that anyway.

Do you promise you will not abuse your powers?
Yeah, there's no point in letting any malicious Add-Ons by as I'm not a malicious person. It would just get caught quickly, anywho.

If you see that the addons are in the wrong category, will you put them in the right ones?
I'm a sucker when it comes to organization. It would be a shame if I didn't do that.

Will you respond to reports from broken addons?
Those can't be ignored. They make the site seem bad, and may cause some serious problems for the end-user.

Do you have any other skills that will help you test the addons?
I've tested Add-Ons in the past for friends. I also code. A lot.

What opportunity?

Being able to give back to the community in a project like this.

Denied.

Judging by your signature, its hard to believe your age.
What does my signature have to do with my age? I actually am 15. Even if my signature is a bit silly, that has nothing to do with my maturity or my coding skills.

Did someone give that BLID to you?
No, I bought it myself.

EDIT: Plimus?
Yes, but my original ID is 18777.

"This isn't fun, this is hard work no one wants to do unless they volunteer knowing whats ahead of them. It looks like your in it for the fame."

I was actually excited about contributing to the community by helping out this project. I love Blockland and love coding and add-ons, and would love to have this job.

I have edited the application. Please re-evaluate.
