Author Topic: What is the best server you have been in? (New poll)  (Read 4364 times)

Mine
I also liked the old CRPG's that people actually tried to build decent stuff.

well jorgur's RPG is just really basic and grindy and there's really not much else to do but grind

i remember it having like a massive world and everything but it never seemed to me like it was anything but a few quests of grind and then endless grind after

i remember jorgur asking what i thought of it once when i made some rpg design topics in the past so i checked it out. i guess he really wanted to make something quality but i think he just missed the finer points and it ended up a mess. really whenever i play any RPG in blockland the fun is from talking to people instead of the actual gameplay. i think jorgur removed the local chat he had on at one point since he realised that, which was great.

tip for RPG makers: don't mess with the basic functionality of chat. don't modify the text; don't make normal chat local; don't restrict global chat at all; there are never enough players to justify it and there's absolutely no reason why you need to make the player say something they didn't want to say, or make them say it in a way that they didn't intend

i guess if it keep whining about RPG design i'm going to have a lot of backlash when i finally make an RPG of my own haha

Why do you always bring up this topic in every place you go? That topic isn't wanted here and 90% of the time you are the only one warranting it. Take it back to your rant about rpgs thread if you have to, but stop derailing threads about it.

image is of my empire upon reaching the 'future' era. Cleared out everything that was not sci-fi. The island was a bit crowded afterwards.

Randomness's MERP (mini empires role play)
earned admin, had a huge amount of drama with an abusive admin, was banned on several occasions by abusive admin, began a server-wide war, and I've earned a reputation as a fairly ruthless MERP strategist because of my actions. Marche/Natelein was the user. He pretends to be female on occassions, but he's just an overly loveual homoloveual. If you look up Randomness and Marche in drama, you'll see something about him photoshopping some chat to make Randomness look like a cult-member (something along those lines)

Though I do not have official documentation anymore on Randomness's server, I remember a lot of the criteria for the final-war. For those that care to read it, It's at the bottom with 3pt text. Copy/paste it into a document for the story. If you don't care for the story, don't bother with it.

All that aside, even though it was not my best mini empires, it was not my fondest memory, nor did I really make a lot of friends, I would be blatantly lying if I said I didn't have fun.
---Background info:
the server was an evolution mini empires. Players start out with cavemen and work up to spaceships and lasers. I was a highly active user who contributed a lot to the server, both in terms of administration as well as mechanics (I designed a clock that simplified gameplay, I set up an estimated 8 users with said clock. It used a system of relays and VCE events to automate the evolution process, giving more time to the players to build instead of wasting time looking at the guide for evolution.)
---The upset:
Marche banned a user for disagreeing with him. This was a gross abuse of power, and I told Marche as such. Marche persisted to grude-match with this guy, and it was looking like Marche was going to make things go nuclear (he was on the verge of banning 3 people,) so I de-admined him and banned him for 5 minutes. Randomness (the host) came on with Marche, de-admined both of us and had us both on close observation. I didn't complain and cooperated, Marche did not. We were both re-admined, but Marche persisted in his ways, abusing power left and right. Being close friends with Randomness, he kept admin regardless of this. I don't recall exactly what it was, but Marche had framed me for some kind of action that got my admin revoked. I was permitted to play on the server, mostly on the grounds that I keep the server active and I'd contributed so much.
Marche insulted me on a daily basis. Teased, name-calling, rape statements, you name it. I didn't really care because I could just client-sided mute him. Things got bad when he targeted my friends. That's when he set me off.
---The 'final-war*':
I formed an alliance called RAGE to combat Marche's alliance (I can't recall the name, only that he named his mini empires leader after himself.) Retaliatory Alliance for Greater Equality. The original intent was to have agents in all four quadrants of the map, and to defend against Marche in the case that he invaded anyone. Marche and I got in a heated argument, I was banned, came back and ignored him for a week. In that time-frame, I schemed his downfall. I formed a wager with Marche: We will go to war in exactly one month. The wager was as such ORIGINALLY- the loser is permanently banned from the server. Marche whole-heartedly agreed to this, as he DID have a strong offense that could easily overcome my defense. Issue was, he was 'done' growing, whereas I was exponentially growing in power. Time went on, I became a threat to Marche with advanced aerospace technology, a huge trade-empire, and a hidden mothership that was 3x larger than his main attack ship. Marche, feeling threatened (this is an assumption) began to recruit people for his alliance. He gained 2-3 members. What he didn't know, was that I was operating in the shadows while he wasn't around. He bragged about having an army, 4 empires vs my single empire. What he failed to realize, was I always had 2 more empires than he did. Tensions grew as the end of the month was drawing near, and I was feeling good, so I unmuted him and asked to spice up the deal: loser's entire alliance is permabanned. I had an army of 14 empires, Marche had 3. Marche whole-heartedly agreed. He knew I had 5 empires, and offered them the chance to join him. They all stood by my side, but in a group chat, I told all 14 of my allies to accept his offer.
I had 14 spies on the inside of his alliance. I knew his every move before he made it. I knew his plans, I knew his strategies, I knew his attacks, his weaknesses, where his leader would be located, I knew everything I needed. Not only this, he had 12 of those empires on base-defense for his island. When war-came, they would rotate 180 degrees and demolish his island. 2 players, separately, came to me stating that they did not feel that they were devoted to my cause: one wanted to kill me before Marche could, the other wanted to kill us both and claim all of the glory, and take over RAGE under a new name and command. I talked them both out of it, and back under my command.
*it's called the final-war because it was the last war ever held on the server in that time frame. The war was never held, but after the deadline of it, the server died off. It came back a year after with a new timeline, similar mechanics. I didn't play.
---The battle plan:
As all combatants entered the server, we would lock the server and go private. An estimated 25 people would be there, roughly 22 fighting, the host to overlook all combat, 2 people recording per my request. The 12 empires on defense would stay at Marche's base and wait for my signal. If they were told to move, they would move, so as to not blow their cover. Marche would send out a device he called the "Mobile Pandemonium," a large flying platform with a single beam-weapon that could, on being charged, destroy a 64x64 area. This would be escorted by ONLY heavy air units. I had naval and aviation units that would meet him at a halfway point, that would take out as many fighters and defenses as I could. But I strategically kept the number of units low, so that he would eventually ware me out to only a couple of units. They would flee in the direction of his base, as Marche isn't one to give up a good fight, even if it's only for scraps. He wanted all of my units gone.
Upon reaching the island, naval ships would destroy Western AA cannons, and two dropships would land on the ground, deploying 4 hardsuits (mechs) and 20 men. Their objective would be to seek out Marche IV (the mini empires leader,) capture him, get him aboard a dropship and get out of there. As the Mobile Pandemonium neared, I would unveil the two key components to my plan- The Titan-X, and my Hawk-class satellite. Long story short, working in tandem the two would jam the Pandemonium's systems, charge the primary weapon, aim it at the center of Marche's empire and fire. If the hacking failed, then the 12 empires as well as my mothership would decimate the island with our own weapons. Regardless, Marche had no chance of survival.
If you remember still, we stole Marche VI. He would be escorted to my empire's island. As the server rules go, you cannot play anymore if your entire population is wiped out, so Marche VI would be the last. He would be held on trial in front of the 15 empires, publicly shamed and executed.
---The downfall: 4 days before the battle, Marche enraged me. He banned me for 5 minutes three times, kicked my friends and was abusing administrative power for sick kicks. So I snapped. I told him everything. I told him that he only had 2 allies when he thought he had roughly 17. I told him that the host had heavy preference for me winning the war (no secrets are kept from the host. If you stealth, he is the only one who needs to know), and I told him the entire plan. I told him every little detail of how we would execute his last and final unit, his leader.
I was permabanned, and Marche gave a public statement of how he was sorry that nobody liked him and that he had fallen so far (There are screenshots of this, Ill see about having those posted).
---Current day: Marche is permabanned from the server, Randomness and I are both admins on eachothers server. Marche occasionally visits my server to ask if "you still hold that silly grudge against me." I always re-perma him, but I like hearing him ask. It reminds me of how proud I was of all that work. 15 people were ready to fight by my side against an administrator in RP. 15 people were willing to risk being permabanned. I still frequently MERP with about 9 of them.

I always wanted to play on that server, but the story is always too far in by the time I see it's up :(

Realistic Space Mod. Yeah, I'm biased since that's one of my own servers, but to be honest that's the most fun I've ever had in a Blockland server.
