Author Topic: Hobby Lobby won 5-4.  (Read 1087 times)

So, I guess corporations can now refuse to pay for things that they find objectionable on religious grounds, at least healthcare wise.

Great time we're living in.

but i gota hav muh religious freedum!
this stuff needs to stop

wait i don't get it

explain it again

im not christian but i totally stand for them.

no corporation should be forced to provide healthcare benefits that stand against what they believe in.

if capitalism stands true and enough people think just like you, then hobby lobby will be out of business pretty soon eh?

that's a good point.

I don't see why this is such a big deal. They aren't preventing their workers from getting contraceptives, just not providing them. Boo-hoo now your morning-after pills and condoms aren't free, it's not like they were excessively expensive anyways. I'm not saying "m-muh religious freedom" because that's loving irrelevant to the situation. It doesn't matter whether they were doing it because of their religion or because they just don't feel like providing contraceptives, they are a privately-owned corporation that does not need to provide anything past basic health insurance to its employees.

the hell is 5-4 the arabian version of 7-11 or some stuff

someone please tell me what's going on
i never heard of the hobby lobby

I love how corporations are considered people in politics.

The way I see it, the corporation is not a person, and therefore does not have religious beliefs, so they should be paying for the healthcare benefits of their workers regardless of the religious beliefs of its workers. It is almost an infringement upon the freedom of religion, as now you can be discriminated by that in the eyes of the corporation.

Of course, it is with reason. If your a radical militant Sunni fundamentalist then that's pretty objectionable.

EDIT: didn't know all the info. Take my opinions with a grain of salt. I need time to mull this over.

wtf
it's the supreme court majority vs. dissenting opinion. 5 justices voted in favor of hobby lobby's case, and 4 opposed it.
