What is it?machat is a social thriving environment where everyone is hosting a virtual party (chat room). You and others are welcomed to join anyone's chat room. Guests are also allowed to join but unfortunately can not speak because of the duct tape around their mouth.
Why did you make it? STORY TIME!It all started here actually. Not the forums but the game Blockland. I joined August of 2007 and met so many friends on here from the start all the way up till today. No where else on the internet have I made more friends than I did on Blockland. Most of the time I wouldn't even play Blockland to build, script, play minigames, I would just talk to my friends I've met on it, and it wasn't just me that did it. So many others use Blockland to socialize as well. However Blockland wasn't meant to be a socializing platform, it's suppose to be "that game where you build stuff", it just accidentally became my go to for socializing. However I want to build onto that Blockland friendship making magic and take it as far as I can, and so that's where machat came in. A website that you can access anywhere to socialize and meet friends, even on your mobile device!
Features and Goalsmachat is still a baby crying so these features are not unique lol. It is our responsibility to make and shape machat into an awesome social networking website!
- The moment you create an account people can join and talk in your chat room. How do you find chat rooms? Easy right on the front page you will see a list of chat rooms ordered by last message sent.
- You have a username you use to sign in with, and a display name that is shown in chatrooms and can be changed. You also may upload a picture and crop it to your liking in the web browser as your avatar.
- You can follow other users but at the moment it serves no use. I plan on adding a feature to the homepage where you can filter chat rooms to show only the people you're following chat rooms.
- A feature you may see in the future is allowing the owner of the chat room to play YouTube videos and everyone else in the chat room will automatically sync up.
- Other features such as resetting passwords, re-sending email activation and banning users from chatting on your chat room will soon be implemented.
- You are able to delete messages in your chat room.
- You can ban annoying people from your chat room.
- Like a Blockland Server everyone's chat room has a title that you can change at anytime to represent what your chat room is all about.
- Later I will add more profile options such as gender, age, location, contact information.
Technical details please!machat is running on an Amazon EC2 Linux Server. It's free until around Feb/March. machat uses node.js aka a javascript server along with socket.io for websockets. MySql is used for machat's database where all the chat messages, and your accounts are stored. Don't worry your passwords are encrypted with SHA-512 and randomly generated salts ;)! And of course I used Bootstrap to make website to look somewhat lovey and dynamic so you can use machat on your mobile device! And last but not least Jquery, no explanation required. If you have any other questions that are technical feel free to do so, I just wanted to give you a general idea of what machat is built on.
What do you want me to do?You can do a multitude of things, if you did them all that would be loving awesome. First thing is to check out the website itself and sign up! Start exploring and chat with others :D! If you want to be cool and hack and break it go ahead because if it doesn't happen now it will happen later, but please tell me if you find a security issue (PM ME!). If you have a suggestion that isn't a security issue then say it loud and proud in public on this thread or on my chat room
