I'd be surprised if that worked any better than speech to text recognition.
Which is usually pretty bad.

Surely it hits a wall though when a conversation reaches topical things, such as reference to people and products, since there's often no codified way of saying a name. In sign language with reference to people, such as celebrities, isn't it a made up sign that best matches the personality/character of the person in question?
I know you could spell out the name of someone, but doesn't that really slow down the conversation? How do you mention people in conversations using ASL, Furling?

And how does this work for different sign languages?
ASL is only one sign language and different languages have different sign languages. Getting someone to communicate in ASL with someone in DGS is just as difficult as getting someone to speak English to someone who only speaks German.

I suppose you simply have to update the device to understand foreign sign languages, but is that even an issue they're aware of or addressing?

I meet many deaf people over world. I can understand German Sign Langauges and even foreign too, They are not hard understand for me. but Hearing people have hard time try understanding what they say. Most deaf people are lucky able to understand each other of deaf foregin, How I meet them? I was using Camfrog for many year.

I did talked to Owner of Motion Savvy said they will add deaf foreign in the future. Current deaf people sign up for beta test this year in USA only for now. I did sign it already a month ago.

If you're having a conversation in Sign Language, and say you want to talk about President Obama, how do you sign that?
What do you use to sign "Obama"? Is there a specific sign that everyone using ASL knows, or is it sort of made up person to person?

How would this technology get to know all the signs for different names of people? It would have be to updated quite a bit for that, surely, especially as new celebrities/politicians come into the limelight.

Or can you, as an individual using it, add a new sign to it's vocabulary? So that if you talk about a local person you can refer to them quickly?

Oh, so furlings deaf. And all this time...

as for Obama, most time we have spelling finger ABC. We know that Obama know little sign laugauge, I am sure you will find youtube will show you. If You want give name sign, unless only deaf people give to you, But you cannot create idea your sign name, because deaf's culture way.

Motion Savvy will update, using the Apps download to update on your tablet with the leap motion. Right now the cost is $600.00 But They doing beta test to adjust make it better then less the price which we can buy afford it.

I'm sure there's a sign for President, he'd be likely to either just use that for simplicity or spell out Obama by each letter.

Oh, so furlings deaf. And all this time...
Wait, you just figured this out? Wasn't it kinda obvious?

Being deaf isn't a good enough explain action for his stuffty grammar. Betelgeuse is deaf too and he's fine.
