Surely it hits a wall though when a conversation reaches topical things, such as reference to people and products, since there's often no codified way of saying a name. In sign language with reference to people, such as celebrities, isn't it a made up sign that best matches the personality/character of the person in question?
I know you could spell out the name of someone, but doesn't that really slow down the conversation? How do you mention people in conversations using ASL, Furling?
And how does this work for different sign languages?
ASL is only one sign language and different languages have different sign languages. Getting someone to communicate in
ASL with someone in
DGS is just as difficult as getting someone to speak English to someone who only speaks German.
I suppose you simply have to update the device to understand foreign sign languages, but is that even an issue they're aware of or addressing?
