Author Topic: how can my friend improve this island  (Read 3176 times)

he doesnt think theres room for improvement
i think overwise

Road signs, some things on the beach, animals, houses in those empty slots, and finally add something between those trees.

If he doesn't believe there's any room for improvement I doubt he's gonna change it anyways.

You could try coloring that hill different, maybe add some cliffs or something to vary depth. Boat docks on the beach, and something on the slopes of the hill.

dont stick to the grid when making roads, you only should do that in a city rpg really.
plus exchange the ugly ass brick print texture to a ramp print. maybe make the beach in different angles of terrain too

K I see your problem now
Well considering what server this is on, if I were to have made the island, I would make the shoreline look more natural (use smaller mod terrain or get rid of it altogether), organize the lots better and make more of them (maybe even make beach lots on sand),  take out a lot of the trees because they look awkward all bunched up, maybe add some crosswalks at certain intersections, maybe create special lots on higher elevation and an airport of sorts like in the older servers, and bring back the "gated community" idea from older servers as well (whether it be a second island or a legitimate gated community).

This is for a City RP, so the grid system is justified.

are there any cliffs on the water? like a rock wall or something instead of sandy beach? what about a dock?

That might be something I would make once the server's up although the older server did have a default dock. It's really up to Frankie and Kreon.

Yo put summa them trees on the slopes, but don't like, fill in all the gaps. also, them city blocks are micro as hell. ya can get rid of every other road. looks like a chill as hell template fer a beachside town tho :)

Right now I'm on vacation but I get back today so if you want I could help with development.

Remove some of the trees, and recolor some of them similar colors, also PLEASE add more room for building lots, you don't need roads surrounding every single lot, wastes space.

Grids can be fine in certain builds. It's not at all uncommon for cities to be built in grid systems, particularly in America (e.g: New York). But it is less common in England (bar Milton Keynes).

But on a small island like this one I would agree that it doesn't seem normal, but that's understandable since it is for a city rp.

This is good advice. There are too many roads, particularly when there isn't very far to go on this island. There should be sections of the town (especially near the beach) where it should be entirely pedestrianised.
Try making it sea-sidey, so you have slimmer streets and more buildings built in rows. As it is a cityrp, promote the idea of having bottom floors act as shops/cafes/restaurants, and upper floors be private residences. This saves you from setting up distinct residential and commercial areas.

It's also worth noting with your roads that they are particularly large for quite a small island. Don't be afraid to make them half the size, and have slightly more pavement.
You're on a small island so there isn't going to be hundreds of cars on the road at any one time, so don't be afraid to make 1-way streets.

Overall this means much more space for pedestrian movement and more space for lots. And remember that lots don't have to be seperate from each other. You can have rows of buildings of equal or even varying sizes all next to each other.

After seeing the full island in a sneak peek, I would highly suggest that you cut down on the open space and/or make the island way smaller.

Trees on the slopes or make the slopes another color as if they were rock or something. Also maybe something in the mountain, like an observatory
