I need a good video editor program GETTING LIGHTWORKS

I've been needing a good video editor for a while now, I need something similar to Final Cut Pro, but I don't have a Mac so I can't get that. I was thinking about getting Sony Vegas, but I am not sure which version to get, and it's also very expensive.
Suggest video editors please.

Premiere Pro Cs5 is all i ever needed

cs6 has a few more cool gadgets that you might not need

I recomended Premier or After Effects as well. Used Vegas for years until I played with the Adobe tools, and I instantly converted forevaaaaaah.

Granted After Effects has that annoying there where you need to do a RAM preview to hear audio, but you can work around the tiny niggles.

but having after effects isn't really worth it just for blockland videos.

It also depends on what you use it for.
Movie studio platinum would be good for making videos, but effects and such won't be avalible (there's only a few)
Pro 11.0 is good for more advanced editing, same for premire pro cs6.

and sony vegas 12 < Mainly this one. more noob friendly.

Lightworks is free and has lots of nice features. It was also actually used for some Hollywood movies (the priced version, of course, which adds some extra export options) including one of the Batman movies, Pulp Fiction, Braveheart etc..
And with that, you may figure out it has a insanely handicapped steep learning curve though.
