Xubuntu (light desktop, Ubuntu support)
Arch Linux (lighweight, difficult, fun)
Elementary OS (beautiful, Ubuntu support)
SliTaz (fast, incredibly lightweight; < 50mb)

Something using KDE instead of GNOME




seriously though. Go with mint 14. Its beautiful

Just get Ubuntu, its the most established distro at the moment and has the most support.

Linux Mint KDE is my decision
