I feel like you succumbed to the idea of, 'if you can't beat them, join them.'
The reason Windows is so easy to use for you is because the people who develop the applications you use sink all the frustration Windows induces upon software. People go through the grueling process of making windows applications because that's where the market is for their applications.
If the developers who made products like Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Evernote, Blockland, and every other product that doesn't support Linux had a reason to do so beyond toting the cross-platform tag as part of their self-assigned achievements, they would.
Linux (in the form you're referring to) is very much a niche OS for people who have a deeper understanding of how computers work than the average computer user. There are tons of people that are working for it to become so much more than that though -- it really does have potential as you pointed out by mentioning Android, TiVo, Chromebooks, etc -- and over time it is becoming more widely adopted and supported. When and if the time comes that Linux holds the biggest share of the OS market, people will look back at Windows in the way that people today look at hunting with spears.
