It used to be a symbol of good iirc among the Germanic people and eventually morphed into a symbol of luck in North America back in the 1800s. Which is why you can look at sports teams photos from the 1890s and such and see swastikas on their uniforms and banners.

Yeah, a buddhist symbol.

Yeah, a buddhist symbol.
Um, the symbol was used worldwide. It has different meanings all over the place.

Also caused many people on Blockland to use the excuse "but it used to be a symbol of peaaaceeeee :(" when spamming swastikas on servers.

Ah.

Painting was made in 1872
World wars are not even on the horizon

It's also not really a difficult symbol to come up with

Yeah, a buddhist symbol.

It's found in both cultures. And it was originally in Asia a Hindu symbol. Don't forget that Buddhism grew out of Hinduism just like Christians were once Jews.

I wonder.
It's an ancient symbol that predates the national socialist's. It has multiple meanings, ofcourse now its a associated with the national socialist's. That will probably change in a hundred years or so as people start to forget about ww2.

Germany didn't use the swastika until Riddler, though. Some national socialists (not Riddler), but ones like Goebbels were even trying to go back to proto-Germanic religious traditions too, ie. worship of Thor and Odin, etc, and so it makes sense to use the swastika.

as people start to forget about ww2.

Forget about the bloodiest war in all of human history?

It's an ancient symbol. Ancient hindus and Romans were using it for various purposes.
Ultimately it's not a particularly difficult design to come up with, but it is striking, hence it's prevalence in so many cultures.

It's just one of the shames of national socialist Germany that the symbol is so linked with the national socialist party and fascism. I don't see that link being broken any time soon.

Apparently it may have been used to represent Thor or his hammer

I wasn't talking about that

I was talking about franco-german relations circa 1870
