Sniper rifles/assault rifle/ battle rifle/ dmr/ hunting rifle/ rifle:
Basically all those words are just labels to describe what they do. In the end they are just rifles, some are built for a special task, but in the end a rifle is a rifle.

It's how you use it and what it was designed for. Like a tractor which can be modified to plow fields, dig ditches, tow objects, or lift objects.

I remember one of my teachers told me the term "assault rifle" meant nothing in one of my projects because it was just a label coined by the media to instill fear into people.
Just throwing that out there because it amused me at the time.

THAT RIFLE ASSAULTED ME, BANBANBANBAN

Also Damp, what if that Ak platform was milled to be single fire only? Just like all(?) AR-15s.

The term assault rifle came from ww2 when Riddler was introduced to the stg-44. I believe Riddler coined the term himself, don't quote me on that because that is hearsay.

The idea behind was to make a rifle suited for close quarters combat, which was something that bolt action rifles are not suited for.

You realise like the are, Ak's can be made for civilian use to. You seem a bit ignorant on the subject, I recommend reading up a bit more on firearms from a source that is not a video game nor something from moms or the Brady campaign.

IMO If anything it'd be safer the other way around seeing as rifles like that are meant to be used in an offensive manner and from a long distance, aks however, could be used in a defensive manner

Remember when that one guy shot up that place with an AK rifle?
With actual military rifles in a Antigun state during the assault weapons ban? Yes I do

why shouldn't that be allowed?

I wish all of the anti-gun people and fake socialists would leave California. We use to have frontiers men, cowboys, vaqueros, gold miners, railway line workers, bear hunters, armed coaches, etc. They all got wiped out when the liberals drove their Priuses into the state and founded San Francisco and Hollywood.

I think we would be better off with restricted gun use (small arms) if it had been like that for a while, but now there really isn't anything we can do/need to do.

why shouldn't that be allowed?
Because it looks like a "military weapon" and looks like its "fully automatic"

IN short, he doesn't know if its a semi auto civilian weapon or a full automatic weapon.

I've been watching OP during the whole debate and he's trying to swing either which way people seem to be going and constantly changing his mind about things.

tldr: OP isn't well informed about anything regarding the subject as it appears

I'm gonna bring up a point right now about gun control and how it varies.

Currently the United States is number one for the most guns ownder per 100 citizens. We also have a stuff ton of mass shootings and murders. The US fairly close to the top of the list, ranking #13 on the gun mortality list.
Switzerland on the other hand ranks #5 of guns owned per 100 citizens. They've had only three mass shootings and murders since the beginning of the year 2000. (At least accoring to my sources.) Switzerland also has an extemely low gun mortality rate.
Australia has some pretty strict gun laws. Only about 5.2% of the adult population own and use firearms. Gun mortality rates have been decreasing there for decades aswell.

Gun mortality includes Self Deletes via firearms, Flash Mobs, or single homicides.

IMO if you want to stop these crazy shootings and decrease the mortality rate, you need to censor certain media outlets, and educate your political figureheads and authority figures. It's worked in Australia at least.

However the problems remain that no one likes censorship and political figureheads and most authority figure perfer to remain in the dark or try to sound like they know what they're talking about when it comes to guns. This is the problem in America that I've noticed.

I'm unsure of how things are regulated or treated in Switzerland. If anyone with info on that would like to speak up pls do.

I support the right to own firearms. But it depends not only upon the person's mentality, but also their environment. There are too many factors and people are only paying attention to which ones they want rather than all of them. (for example: it was video games; it was the music; it was his family; it was his parents; it was these two things; etc.)
