Blockland Forums! Help me learn how to sing.

Recently, I have really been wanting to learn how to sing. I think about it constantly, and it would not be an exaggeration to say I am getting obsessed with the idea. The problem?

I HAVE NO CLUE WHERE TO START

By no clue, I mean nothing. As in, I need to learn the very basics, like how to sing through your diaphragm, how to hit notes, how to find my own style, etc.

I have no clue who else to turn to, as I don't frequent any music forums and none of my friends have the first clue on how to sing.

I am COMPLETELY open to practice. I am not looking for a quick "get a good voice, find out why Frank Sinatra hates him" scheme, so please me at least semi-serious (A hard feat, I know :P)

One more thing.
I, as a person, need clear instructions to start off (I should be fine afterwards) , so if anyone could help, that would be great.

I've been self teaching myself kinda for the past year or so. By self teaching I literally mean just singing to my favorite songs and watching a couple videos. Things I've learned: drink tap-warm water; warm up first, even just a little (by this I mean sing in your comfort range, don't try and stretch it yet); just keep doing it.

I'll try and look up a video I found very helpful, hang on.

If you don't have the time/patience to use a coach then just record yourself and see what you can change to get better

Rinse repeat.

Not the best way but trial and error works.

I'd honestly prefer not to get a local voice coach. I really want to teach myself and learn at my own pace. Plus, 95% of the coaches down here are from country singeresque styles or backgrounds and that really is not what I would want to learn, nor imitate.

search for a non-local voice coach it would probably be a good idea to join a choir or some other singing group that isn't particularly elite, that should give you some useful experience and the opportunity to meet people who may be able to help

I'll consider it. Our choir is pretty stuffe though, just like our band. School-wise.

i just sing to a certain song and try to match my voice up as best as possible
it's not that hard but i still probably sound terrible
