Author Topic: I'm the only one that uses the abbr tags.  (Read 1849 times)

I don't use it because only Firefox underlines it, even informing the end user that an abbreviation has been used. If something is supported so poorly across browsers, as a web developer I feel obligated to avoid it.

If it was properly supported across browsers I would use it all the loving time.
I do like how Firefox underlines it, but I think that should be something you should be able to change with CSS. It shouldn't be required to be underlined.

Chrome doesn't underline it at all and I don't mind.

I usually use nobbc and have yet to use abbr.
But yeah, they should be added as buttons in the post page, maybe replacing [ftp] and [email]

Holy stuff, I don't think I've ever seen the table used. Or the FTB or the email.

I mind because I have no idea of knowing what's abbreviated and what isn't. I'm not going to hover my mouse over every word in every message to see if somebody has been clever and hidden meaning inside their post.

Table gets used a whole lot, especially in megathread OPs and clan topics where formatting is actually important.

I use the table for organizing certain RP elements and such.

But I like hidden messages. :|

I'm getting the feeling you have absolutely no idea how to use tables

the table tag goes on the outside of the ENTIRE table. tr is for a new row. and td is for a new cell in a row
it's exactly like using tables in HTML

A whole new way to make ARG

That's another thing I've notices about BBCode, it's practically HTML.

That's why formatting is such a breeze for me now.

On the topic of use of BB code, does anyone else literally never use the buttons at the top of the page? I just type out my stuff. I hate using my mouse, it's a hundred times faster to type [url=whatever.com]stuff[/url] or [tt]teletype stuff[/tt] than moving my hand off my keyboard, navigating my mouse to the proper button (after searching for it, I don't have their locations memorized), and clicking on it.

yet another forum feature to use and then forget about

The only times I ever use the buttons is when editing, and that's just highlighting text and applying tags.
Besides that, I always type out my tags.

That was kinda the joke.

Yeah, I rarely use the tag buttons.
