ive always found it so odd that something that occurs naturally in nature is illegal

No. That's the whole part of the darknet. That you're fully anonymous and that you can't get any information from the person on the darknet. It's not impossible, but usually the issues come from people not updating to the latest version of Tor when it comes out.
