It's pretty hard to get addicted to MDMA. The only real way to form a chemical dependence on it is if you're using it in high dosages (>200mg) frequently to the point where it induces truncated FosB into the NAcc in the same way amphetamines do. Acute tolerance also develops to MDMA so it's really hard to play the 'high all day erry day' game with MDMA, and if you tried to anyway you'd quickly run into serotonin depletion.
All that's just technical jargon to say it's hard to abuse MDMA via frequent use. Obviously it could still be abused in other ways, such as coping mechanism, but I would disagree with the statement that MDMA use is a 'road,' I'd argue that it's a lot more like a cul-de-sac.
