Author Topic: Virtual Reality support for Blockland?  (Read 3050 times)

Will it be done officially?
Will someone mod it eventually?
Can it be done?
Is there a demand? (i want it so therefore everyone has to do it for me)

Most definitely won't be done officially. Badspot may be doing many things, but updating this game doesn't seem to be one of them

i have an oculus rift and i can say nobody would enjoy blockland VR

most games arent much fun in VR mode. sure "experience" programs are cool but most game ports are really dull and hard to play. half life 2 was extremely fun though, and so was minecraft, because it was modded very well.

blockland would be clunky and awkward with the rift, and building impossible. people in the rift are great at aiming and movement, but complicated controls and actions can ruin it. menus can be extremely awkward too, as it feels like they are glued to your eyes.

the best mods create a virtual 3D menu that hovers in front of your characters chest, that can be easily viewed. this would be impossible in blockland.

i can FEEL the plastic
its like i'm really in afghan!
although it'd probably be clunky, there are definitely novelty things as such that would be neat to try out

Oh my god

imagine playing the speedkart gamemode with VR and just getting flung out of the map at 500km/h after a dodgy collision with another speedkart...

I mean I'd probably just stuff myself

There's this thing called personal preference, though, so I'm pretty sure the above isn't completely true.

Wouldn't this be possible with a client-side script? Basically, based off of the rotational values of the VR relative to the body, shift the GUI accordingly. Unless GUI objects can't be moved via script once they're enabled?

It would be a good idea, but controls.

Also, is the Rift worth buying? I'm thinking about asking for it for Christmas.

I've always dreamt of it. To me, having a massive GUI in front of my face wouldn't be a problem... kinda what happens everyday. Here's an idea: Maybe use a "phone" for all the GUIs... Would feel normal.
If it can be an official "add-on' then couldn't you just modify the game directly?
