Author Topic: How'd you act as a [younger] kid?  (Read 4390 times)

Yeah so I stumbled across some letters that my kindergarten teacher wrote to my parents. I'm sitting here smirking at myself. These are one of the tens of hundreds of reasons that I was withdrawn from the public school system for most of my life.

[J] & [M],

[XR_7] had one of his best days this year! He didn't have to sit near me or have to be isolated at all in the room. We had to walk to a few things today - lunch, art, and library - and he handled himself appropriately all but once. I had to have him walk with me (hit someone while waiting to leave the library). I was told at the end of the day that he hit at recess once but it went unnoticed by the other boy. Today, it crossed my mind he may be hitting because he may be unsure of how to interact with the kids. He really seems to like the kids and wants to play with them but doesn't talk as much with them. He seems more physical than verbal is a better way of saying what I'm thinking.

Anyway, big improvement! We'll continue to watch and keep you informed.

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely, Erin.

Dear [J] & [M],

[XR_7] did great this morning!

Later, during centers, when the kids had to wait for each other and work at their tables he was unable to behave with his table group. I moved him to a desk and put the desk next to his table so he could talk to them if he wanted to, but not close enough for him to be able to touch the kids' work or materials. He didn't hit at all today and that was/has been our goal so I praised him for not hitting today!

Thanks, I know you must be telling him/talking to him about not hitting or touching the kids.

Sincerely, Erin :)

2nd grade closed the coffin lid on public school for a whole decade. In my kindergarten journal, I didn't draw anything but Chrysler Prowlers crashing into water heaters.

This kid wasn't normal.

the ghosts of the innocent

Aye, makes sense.

I always wanted to be the class clown and I always thought I was like the valedictorian of the elementary school. I never got in trouble, but I was really awkward with my "funny random epic" comedy gold, or at least, what I thought was back then anyway. I used to get really upset over stupid things a lot, too.
