Author Topic: Guess the future of Blockland  (Read 836 times)

Over the years, Badspot has made a forgetton of money from this game. It has been featured in magazines, and recognized all over the world. After nearly 10 years of developing it, I can understand how he feels about it. Over the years, he's been making little and littler money from the game. The Steam launch had a big boost, but even then sales have gone down.. I'm pretty sure in a few years Blockland will be near obsolete. I mean, it's literally impossible for something good to last 10 years (or 13 in the time period I'm talking about). I'm not trying to push Badspot into doing anything, or to be an ass, but what do you think will happen? I'd be extremely sad if this game became freeware or abandoned (not because of more newbcakes, but because it will be very dreary in the sense of life).

So, what's your opinion?

I'm pretty sure sales are higher than they were a year ago right now...

it will die because it's a 10 year old game with a ridiculously outdated engine and it's just going to keep getting older.

badspot will go on to develop bigger, greater things and the forums might go somewhere else.

blockland just breaks laws of nature to me; i mean this game just seems so widely entertaining and the possibilities are so much more endless than it might look like at first that it blows me away this game wasn't a million dollar idea straight out of badspot's head. it certainly deserves the 10 years it's gotten.

if or when blockland eventually dies, i hope badspot or someone makes something similar, this game is an idea that is just too cool.

2018- Blockland either has a new engine or it's dead. Badspot moves on to make the game Blockland 2: The Search for More Money. Rotondo helps him with the project. The forums remain intact, nobody leaves. Nobody ever leaves. Ever.

and glass spends a grand total of 5k dollars in alts

It's hard to predict, but I do think that there is a chance that Badspot will start working more on the game. I think he realizes that this game has enormous potential, and the fact that it's lasted so long and gotten onto Steam shows that.

False, this is a cheap indie game.  He doesn't even get the net profit from each sale either.
