Bugout kit: Now and Then

Provided you were prepared to either trap, or fish with some makeshift gear, then I think it's a good kit. The lack of a backpack is kind of worrying, and if I had to invest in one thing for survival, it would be a good knife. Not a machete, a knife. Not for self defense, but for utility. Ration and fluid wise, you're doing better than a lot of people, but you would run out of food within 3-4 days roughly. No fire materials, cooking materials, and no navigation materials. You DEFINITELY have maps of your area, pots/pans for cooking, matches or at least a lighter, and you easily have kitchen knives that can act as knives for cleaning game/fish.

Overall, not a bad setup, but it would be a struggle. You would be very reliant on the environment around you.

Oh, cool. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I live in Redondo Beach, pretty much all sub-urbs, so I'd probably do a lot of scavenging and wouldn't need to pack a whole lot of food at once, I think. But, wouldn't the bayonet do a decent job utility-wise? Mine is similar to an M7.

too long, look up "skinning knife" or videos on preparing a deer, bayonets are simply just too long and would get in the way too much.
They can work for getting off some of the good meat, but you would miss out on a LOT

THEN, do it again 5 years down the road, same scenario. Do you ACTIVELY plan on buying that gear? You aren't finding it while in the middle of a zombie apocalypse or global melt down, that's not what the topic is about.
