Author Topic: Are you allowed to share keys?  (Read 1593 times)

I have been wondering this for a while, but never got to asking it.

No. You can use a single key between people living in the same house, but you cannot have your key being used by anyone not living with you.

at least not at the same time; it'll cause authentication errors

No.

Just worth noting, if you do share your key and it's found to be logging in from multiple locations some distance from each other in a short amount of time,  which is evidence of it bring shared, the key can be de authorised.
Similarly if it's brought directly to the attention of Badspot the same can be true.
You'd have to buy a new key.

Badspot does have the right to, but he doesn't do anything unless it's several people all at the same time, large distances away from each other, causing constant auth errors.

I have an 8k key that I use (almost) exclusively to allow friends to try the game. It's been used by a couple people in Texas, a couple in California, one in Florida, one in Ohio one in Quebec, until they decide they like it and buy their own copy
Another friend of mine gave his key to two of his friends, and for about a week they both tried playing at the same time and got constant auth errors
Neither keys have been deactivated

No.

I actually worry about playing BL from different locations when I have my laptop because I'm afraid of having my key revoked.

Well stop being worried, because there is literally 0% chance of that happening unless the key login IP locations are bouncing all over the world faster than anyone could travel
Even then, read my above post

It's not an automated deactivation, Badspot does it manually

If I use my key between multiple computers in my house, will it cause a revokation?

Depends if each computer is using the same IP or not.

no

AFAIK, Badspot normally only gets suspicious if it transfers large distances frequently.

thatd be a shame if some teleporting alien bought the game and lived in 3 different homes across the world.
