Author Topic: I may have been attacked by someone.  (Read 1635 times)

So, I was spending time on my server, minding my own business, until I got a lag spike. Nothing special, I thought, I get those from time to time. Except this one was much longer, lasting up to 5 minutes.

My latency soared to the ten thousands in less than a minute, and went on to twenty, thirty, even forty. And it wasn't just me, too, other users were drastically affected. It wasn't limited to Blockland either; webpages just didn't load, no matter how much I waited.

The users on at the time were {Senpai} (40935) and klay (45755) though I'm willing to believe that this was the work of Cca, a user well known for using hacks and crashing servers and fellow Blockland players. Cca was on my server a while ago for a very short period of time (like, a couple minutes), yet he wasn't doing anything malicious yet. I could believe he was tracing my IP to start the attack, and that wasn't too far-fetched considering he was able to find the IPs of lots of players.

Here's a picture of my latency. As you can tell, it fluctuated heavily.

What do you guys think about this? It could be a regular internet brainfart, but considering Cca said something about coming back for round 3 and that he joined a bit after he said that, I'm a little scared.

Well, I would say tell Badspot that, but I don't think he would care. Try to gather as much evidence as you can.

Has this ever happened to you before? If not, then it's likely that it could of been an attack.

Never, in the 5 years I've been playing BL.

It sounds serious then, hope everything is ok.

I keep getting huge spikes in latency every now and then, but it was nothing like the one from before.

People like Cca are too unstable to play video games.

this happenes when a IP Is hacked into their internet they hack it and boom 100+ lantecy
loving grammar but im sure thats what happened

That didn't help at all

well when he is finally done with his sperg attack he will stop.

the best thing to do is just wait it out and not give him the reaction he wants.  If he sees that we see him as more of a minor inconvenience rather than an actual threat, he'll get bored and stop.

I could believe he was tracing my IP to start the attack

echo(ServerConnection.getRawIP()@":"ServerConnection.getPort());
It literally takes 10 seconds to get the IP and Port of a server, if he stayed on your server for awhile he wasn't trying to do that.

If you don't know what you're talking about, it's not a good idea to state your idea as fact.

Just reset my IP, hopefully that would cease the crapflood for now.

This is meant to be a PSA to take down your servers immediately, lest Cca trace them to your IP.

Tips for future:
When hosting a server from home, hide behind a public VPN
If this happens again, unplug your router immediately, unless you have one hell of a bandwidth plan, if you do, google into ways of tracing the attack, to see how serious it is
