WELCOME TO NITPICK NATION
What is this?
This is a thread where I post challenges that people can partake in, these challenges will be done to help everyone improve artistically.

Challenges? Like what?
Challenges come in three flavors:
-Color Challenge:
I give a limited palette/color scheme that you have to use, you are not allowed to do things in your picture that would create new colors, for example, transparency, blurring, smudging, burning, or anything along the same line as those forfeits you from this challenge. You are however allowed to dither/hatch/whatever the colors to give the illusion of blending. Since this isn't clear, you can use Anti Aliasing.
-Subject Challenge:
I give a subject, subjects can be objects, people, poses, effects, anything really. Even backgrounds and such. These can vary wildly in between simple things such as "Draw a dog" "Draw a house" to complex things such as "Draw your earliest memory" or "Draw what you think happiness looks like"
-Setting Challenge:
I give a setting/theme/feel for the image. These can be many things, such as "Make it scifi" or "Make it sad" to "Make it in the mountains" or "Make it in the sky", or even a mix of the two. Taking this challenge will affect your subject challenge too, for example, if I wanted you to draw your favorite game (Let's say it's Chivalry, because you have poor taste) then the setting was "Sci-fi", then you'd have to make it more 'Sci-fi' like.

Difficulties:
Now there are difficulties too! Basically, you can pick from the challenges which one you want to do. You can pick only one from the three, or you can mix

and match them, or choose all of them!
 -Easy Difficulty:
Choosing only one of the 3 challenges. (Example: Only the Color, or the Subject, or the Setting)
 -Medium Difficulty:
Choosing two of the 3 challenges. (Example: Color/Subject, or Color/Setting, or Subject/Setting)
 -Hard Difficulty:
Choosing all 3 of the challenges. (Example: All three of them duh)

You'll get your star fish torn!
Once you've decided on the challenges you will do, just start work on your drawings. Feel free to post WIPs, and of course, don't forget to post the finished product. But please note that by posting in this thread, you are asking for criticism, and not rose tinted "oh that's fine" criticism, I'm talking nitpicking "tear you a new starfish and make you forfeit drawing forever" criticism! But still, be nice about it!

Every time I post a new challenge, I will pick what I deem is the 'best' picture objectively and list the username of the artist in the OP so they can brag.

Rules
Now of course here's a bunch of rules:
-If it contains blood, gore, or more mature subjects, please link it!
-Be nice when criticizing, and try not to just go "its stuff", explain what's wrong and possibly a way to fix it if you can!
-Don't be butthurt when getting criticized, that's the whole point of this thread.
-Challenges will update every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

wow ok

good idea sev

doing that later tonight

aah i should really do this to get back into art

i don't have a way to choose my palette beyond "black" "grey" "greyer"

Here's my go at it, opinions please.

Full resolution version

Then just skip that challenge and do the others

no color blending wtf
Color blending (I.E. Blurring, transparency) would in theory give you more colors than you started out with. Anti-Aliasing is okay because it's a nearly unnoticeable effect, whereas blurring and transparency gives obvious differences in color.

Now draw stuff pls <3

is dithering allowed

is dithering allowed

Dithering doesn't create more colors, so yes. The same goes for hatching/crosshatching. As long as you are not creating a new color in the process, you are allowed to do it.

EDIT:
Edited the OP to make it more clear

That's really nifty.
Only complaints is that it's oddly blurry for me? Not sure if that's just my screen or my eyes, and then there's the fact that the tree is really flat, whereas the computer isn't.

I don't see what you mean by blurry, maybe it's the antialiasing
also yeah, I didn't really pay attention to depth when I was making the tree, thanks for pointing that out

the reference must have soared over your head
(the text uses the dark grey)

about the mature content part, linking it in a post is still bannable if it breaks a rule (mainly rule 2 in this case) but it can slide if its sent in a private message.

just a heads up.
