so guys apparently corn is a grain

i had a discussion earlier in my engineering lab where someone told me corn was a starch and its been bugging me all day so i had to figure it out

and apparently it's actually a grain

well...... duh? i didnt think anyone out there thought otherwise.
and starch isnt even a proper comparison. a veggie can be a starch. dairy can be a starch. fruit can be a starch.
meat can be a starch,

i always thought it was a vegetable.....

corn is just a grain of a type of grass, after a good 2 thousand years (more? less?) of human selective planting and breeding.

look at a grown grass. thats corn a long ass time ago.

i always thought it was a vegetable.....
it is.

all grains are veggies.

the food pyramid is misleading and inaccurate. not to be taken seriously in any way. it dosnt describe food scientifically.

A fruit is basically a reproductive part, producing seeds.
So, basically, if a specific plant part  has seeds, or is a seed, then it's a fruit: avocados, peppers, squash, tomatoes, eggplant, green beans, pea pods, nuts, are all fruits
(of course there's some other complications, like seedless fruits, which is just a result of a few different things: selectively breeding for fewer Seeds, or harvesting before maturity, such as with zucchinis; if you leave them growing, they'll get absolutely MASSIVE compared to what you find in the store, but they'll be rock hard and filled with seeds)
Vegetables are basically any other part; roots, stems, leaves, etc

Botanical classifications are often completely different than culinary classifications. Here's another fun fact: strawberries aren't actually berries. But bananas are.

For example, carrots, cabbage, lettuce, broccoli, and basil are all veggies.

There are people who didn't know that corn is a grain?

Wow, people really don't pay attention in school, do they?

All you have to do is look at how they grow, really.

it's a crime

Well, in the strictest sense corn is a type of grass.
The corn itself (the individual pieces that come off the cob) is a grain (namely a type of fruit, Caryopsis).
