Author Topic: My 3 month old laptop's hard drive has failed.  (Read 1213 times)

It's bit the dust already and quite frankly, I'm shocked. About a month ago, my computer was running maintenance tests but when it was halfway done with the hard drive portion, the test suddenly failed. I tried it again manually and the same thing happened.

I then downloaded a S.M.A.R.T. hard drive testing application and it happened to find problems.

So I thought no big deal until a few days ago that my laptop failed to shut down after downloading a portable program. I had to hold down the power button, and when it booted up, there were error notifications everywhere saying my files were corrupt and the drive had errors on it. I know some of you might blame it on me, but my laptop would not shut off when I turned it off and even after repairing the file system, it still had problems.

Oh, and on top of that, I got memory error reports too.

And finally today, after still discovering my Steam folder was corrupted, I tried reinstalling Civ 5, and steam showed up with the error message stating

Disc write error.

So I have my files and system stuff all backed up before hand, so I'm just formatting the damn thing and sending it to get repairs since it has a warranty on it. Fantastic.

i keep thinking "man i really need to back up my harddrive cause something like this will happen"

but i haven't i can't be bothered.

Was it an Acer? Maybe something for stuck and was blocking it.

Well, I guess it is time for you to utilize that nice warranty you hopefully have. Don't forget to backup that data because data before sending it where ever you have to send it.

My cousin has a lenovo laptop that's incredibly stuffty.

It's one of those ones with the flip-around touch screens that turns into a tablet.
