Author Topic: why is 24 kb too big for a forum avatar  (Read 1037 times)

im trying to use this

and every time i do it tells me the file is too big

i went down to below the file size of my current avatar (13 kb) and it still doesnt work
what the hell is going on with avatars here

for me it has to be 8.0 kb or smaller

It doesn't even loop, nerd.

Looks fine to me

I don't know, but it's really frustrating. I end up having to use 5/6 frames and a huge amount of compression to get it under the limit.

If we just direct linking to other websites, so I could avatar elsewhere and it would display here, that would be fantastic, but nope.

hey guys i got it to fit under 8 kb!!!

I think it's user bandwidth that the site is concerned about to be honest. I could make a 1 terabyte 75x75 png file and nobody would ever be able to load any page I post on ever.

the least they could do is bump up the filesize limit to 5mb or something

there are many avatars that i once wanted but didn't use because it was too big

i'd say the limit should be 75 kb or something. maybe 50

Opening the .gif file you want to use in GIMP and then exporting it again (without making any changes, still as a .gif) will sometimes allow you to upload it to the forums, for some reason.

Just stop using GIFs you nerds.

But I want to be part of the cool crowd.
