Author Topic: NES repairs  (Read 1203 times)

For those who didn't know, I have a NES. A (Kind of?...)broken one, at that: the 72-pin connector has oxidized (Now replaced with a spare, so that's good.), and I think when my uncle tried to fix it, he put some of the screws in the wrong places to the point where the whole thing is loosely held together. It does work, however, but only half of the time.

Today, I think I fixed it. The NES feels pretty solid now, so that may mean I fixed it. I'm going to check if it worked in a few minutes by playing some SMB.

EDIT: Haven't got the kinks ENTIRELY out, but it's working a lot more than it usually does.

There needs to be a blogland board right under off topic.

forget off, these kind of posts are obnoxious and unneeded. If he wants to post about his life, he can. If nobody cares, the thread will die.

That's awesome! I've never actually had the chance to play on a legitimate NES (I don't even think I've seen one) but I have to imagine it's pretty great.

we wouldn't have an off topic without these threads

Awesome! I own a Super Nintendo, but I look forward to getting an NES soon. It seems SNES units are much easier to maintain than the original NES units.

i have two. the repair is really easy, the connector sits on there like a cartridge. all you do is pull it off the mainboard and replace it with the new one.

I don't see what's the hype about playing a NES or a Atari or an N64...
Its like wanting to install windows 1998 'for fun'

I'm not saying this as some bitchy post, I am ligitamitely interested in what you guys see in it.

it's a good point but installing windows 98se and playing NES are two completely different things haha.

some people like playing the real thing. with the use of emulators that feeling is eliminated (kinda how like nintendo did virtual console)

i have two from parents and i grew up on the NES. i'm serious. i played NES before i got my PS1. to me NES is just fun if you get it from family, buying all that kind of stuff is just crazy unless you're at some flea market.

But say if you play, idk... Pacman?
Great yeah I see the nostalgic feel of using some stuffty ass joystick and pressing some sticky plastic buttons but the nostalgia will disappear after a few hours and you'll be left with a heap of expensive time-junk.
I just fail to understand how that's more fun than buying a PS4, a flat screen TV and the latest HD game.

Old-school I'm assuming...?

Yeah but the game would get boring pretty quickly. Most people's standard for gaming has raised dramatically in the past 10 years. I wouldn't be able to play any of the games I played 10 years ago for more than an hour without getting bored.

Perhaps they do some challenges like Blind-Fold or Perfect-Runs, but they think of anything for a challenge. Adding to your statement, I don't think I have anything to do with an old game I've played for a long time after all of the challenges and such

same

My mom's NES from when she was a kid is around somewhere. I think the wire that connects to the TV is damaged though, but idk the extent of it since I haven't seen it in a while.
