Here's the thing, though, you would get a phone first and foremost for calling / texting, but it would suck ass if that's all your phone could do.
I agree that people get a phone first and foremost for
communication, but the action of dialing a number and having an auditory conversation is for the most part antiquated. Hell, even my mother will shoot me a text to ask me a question rather than interrupt both of our lives to have a phone call.

As you can see, I'm not generally called too often despite frequent communication.
