if you do it properly, DOFs remove jagged edges and make everything look a ton better than normal screenshots

The way you describes is basically just the hacky way that Blockland does it without the need to add rendering effects

Depth of field screenshots have one area that is in focus, while everything in front and behind that is blurry.
Removing jaggedness is a side effect, rather than intention, of this process

This. On slower computer, it can take several seconds, and connected clients lag throughout the process
