Author Topic: What happened to the hat update?  (Read 10188 times)

I just feel like they could be doing something good for this game instead of making our Blockheads look cool Lol. Maybe they're working on something else and keeping it a secret but I doubt it.
well there isnt much left to add to this game. i mean, its pretty old, our engine sucks, and i would really like to see new games from badspot then keep playing the same one for another 10 years.

You've gotta be joking.

Stout shako for 2 refined

i agree with this to a degree

if badspot doesn't feel he has much else to expand on with blockland actively, that's fine, because the nature of the game lends to the game expanding itself. he doesn't necessarily have to abandon it entirely, but he doesn't have to devote full attention to it
applying his talents to new games and projects should be a good thing all-around. he gets to have fun with something new, and the people that play them get to enjoy them. there's no losing; we even still get to enjoy this game. (even if he abandoned the game, so long as the game servers stay running we can continue as normal. we just wouldn't get new blockland content from badspot)

however there's defo stuff to expand on; there always will be in this kind of game. more customisation is one million percent OK with me. it's one of those things that people have been asking for for ages but it was always kinda goofy to execute.

i tried my best
if anyone wants to make it better feel free

You've gotta be joking.
the only thing i think of is that an improvement to vehicle physics would be nice, but that's not very necessary
what ideas could you have

bug fixes. there are so many bugs to fix. sooooooo many. and there are still features yet to be added too, to help expand what's possible with modding. An example would be a binary file writer/reader, sending binary over TCPObject, SSL support, etc.

Whats News to hat update now
Gimme info

This is pretty much all we know:
Yes they're still being worked on.

Also this is why we tend to avoid posting about updates unless we have a concrete timeframe for them.

Not to come off as rude here, but more a legitimate question. Why exactly do we need hats when the new hatmod is perfectly fine? I mean I understand the bot update because the old bots had tons of bugs and issues, but the modding community has the updated hatmod now and it's virtually flawless.

official support will likely be better than a mod can really do. the plan iirc is that hats will be .obj-based and there will be networking to accommodate for them in a multiplayer setting.

note i obv am not a dev; plans change and i may have outdated information or misunderstood information

i believe the plan was also to have hats on the steam workshop

edit:
this actually raises the question though: if hats are .obj-based, will that mean that other models will support .obj format as well?

Workshop, oh hell no...

My experience with gmod and workshop is horrible, the subscription system is hell, most of the time addons do not download properly, and aside from that workshop has file restrictions, not to mention Navigation is slow and poorly done.

Workshop would be better if it was just an instant download, this subscription bullstuff is horrible, I end up having to validate files in order to get one single addon working.

This is just my opinion though, but if some of you guys go through the same then we share a experience.

I've never had addons not download properly unless the person who made it had no idea what they're doing

The only issue with subscriptions i think is when Steam goes down and certain games can't get your list of subscribed addons

I'd say it's definitely better than not having an easier addon distributing system and just going to the forums and manually installing stuff

This and the fact that whenever the creator removes their addon from the workshop it forcefully gets removed from your list and the computer.

i would pay 50 bucks for a blockland expansion.

gimme technic building and those required physics :D
