he was like "Now our computer has 0 protection from viruses, thanks allot microsoft. son, you are not allowed to download ANYTHING!!! or we will get viruses."

what sense does that make at all

if you have a
-antivirus
-keep your firewall up
-dont go to loving shady sites
-never click ads
-update software
-use something that isn't IE

you should be fine

i tried to tell him this. but he was insistent that no antivirus could replace windows support.

what i could imagine:

windows support/microsoft: "hi this is microsoft how may I help you"

bitchy dad: "yeah my computer is currently unprotected how do i fix that, i don't want to download anything"

windows support/microsoft: "have you installed antivirus and turned on firewalls?"

bitchy dad: "no, those things put me in DANGER"

windows support/microsoft: "sir you may want to download a antivirus to fix that"

bitchy dad: "forget you microsoft i don't have to take your stuff i'll just never use the internet ever"

has he even heard of drive-by downloads and redirects?

my mom thought downloading drivers onto her laptop could mess it up forever
it took lots of convincing to get her to download some nvidia driver

one time about four classmates assumed that Norton 360 was a virus itself.
??
it is

oh wait I nearly forgot

I have this friend who got a laptop about a year ago. He knows nearly nothing about computers. He still said the laptop was pretty good, though. The laptop had Windows 8, and it was made by Asus. I went over to his house about a week after he bought it. He powered it on and-
holy forget
There was probably every virus possibly imaginable on that beautiful laptop. It was like taking an ice cream cone, then taking a big lumpy stuff all over it. He opened up Chrome, and every letter inputted into the keyboard took about 6 seconds to register. He had Search Protect on it, some adware, and about 5 fake anti-viruses. So, I started removing all the viruses for him. That stuff took way too long, because it took about 5 minutes to load up the Malwarebytes page. Eventually, it all got removed.

Then he got infected again.
And again.
And again.
I found it a little strange, and I went into his search history without him looking. The source was all these weird Japanese research websites. I realized that there is no point in cleaning it anymore, so now he will have a weird research-infested laptop.

At least his laptop played games pretty good.

The problem with that is that you get to see this all the time now.

Anyways, my family uses Norton, which is probably the worst anti-virus out there as far as I know. Doesn't do anything except remove programs that aren't a virus.

I guess Norton thinks everything is a virus.

My dad thought that pinned icons were running, and were slowing down my computer.
