Author Topic: Why do Users Make Posts in Small Text?  (Read 1382 times)

Okay guys, this honestly has bugged me and had me wondering for awhile now but I finally feel like asking, especially asking the people who do this. Why do you guys feel the need to make parts of your post's in tiny, un-readable text?

Seriously, what does it accomplish? I mean you obviously want people to read it otherwise you wouldn't be posting it in the first place. All it does is cause others the inconvenience of copying your text and pasting it somewhere just to read whatever you felt the need to make small. People are obviously going to read it, so why not just keep the text the same size as the rest of your post?

I'm really genuinely curious on why people do this.

Oh and I already know some comical genius is going to reply to this thread in small text.

They're basically trying to "whisper" it, except it doesn't work because then someone else comes along and quotes it with the text size changed to 30pt.

they could just italics it up when adding some kind of subtext

right?

i mean sometimes ill have small but readable text in my posts that act as though i'm whispering it to myself
something like this

i sometimes do it because i think it kind of conveys volume in text, i always read emerson's posts in my mind quieter than everyone elses, although yknow i understand for the most part its a hassle

I usually use it for jokes, as if I'm whispering them at the end of a conversation, or having a sly dig at someone.

But I always change the font size to 6 or above.
Any smaller and it's stupid.

I'M GOING TO SUBVERT YOUR EXPECTATIONS AND GO LOUD.

But seriously, I do it whenever I feel the need to make a stupid joke, point out something painfully obvious or add something that doesn't contribute much to the topic but is semi-related. The point is, you can usually ignore most of my small text unless you've got questions as to why I'm sounding like a moron.

i think people do it as a "P.S" message

i do it too sometimes but i make it size 6 so it's at least readable

, you can just highlight it and it'll show up in your searchbar addon if you have one

I'm going to take a wild guess and say most people don't have that.

I often use small text to denote regions not specifically relevant to the primary post.
They may not be relevant, but usually I have less self restrictions about rambling since this isn't a necessary part of the text either, it just provides further unobtrusive context that could very well be skimmed over with the primary idea of the post being previously stated in more noticeable text. Also I have this weird compulsion to repeat myself in multiple manners in order to ensure that I get my point across, even if it were obvious in the original wording; I am also often redundant.
