The Papercraft Megathread
for those who have time on there hands and like to make things

What is a papercraft?
A papercraft is a 3d model that was made in paper, most papercrafts are printed and use a template format. Papercrafts take a lot of time and patients to make because cutting and folding can be hard sometimes especially working with small things that need folding

How do I make one?
In order to make one you will need a PC and a printer, then you will need materials, if you are a beginner use scissors and glue. Papercrafts are recommended to be printed in Cardstock, the reason why is because its easier to make them in card and the model is stronger. Most printers don't have the option to print in card, like my printer. Other printers should be easier to print in.

once printed, get you're scissors and cut along the lines of the template, once the part is cut out, fold the tabs and glue it together. If this ^ didn't help you and you are confused here is a guide:

There are many tutorials on youtube for papercrafting so you can search there as well.

where can I get them?
There are many sites on the internet that do papercraft templates, the one I use is pixel papercraft because I mostly make minecraft papercrafts. If you have any sites, post them and I'll add them to this list

so share you're papercrafts in this thread.

ROBLOX - PLAY NOW

This is awesome, silly ads or not. Wish I had a functioning printer that wasn't fried. thanks lightning

hm, I should buy a printer and some cardstock. I really liked doing papercraft stuff a while ago, but I just ended up with a bunch of paper models all around my room doing nothing.

last year I made Thomas Bangalter's helmet in papercraft, then covered it in fiberglass and bondo so I could wear it on my head. Here's a crappy iPod picture of it while I was in the process of putting fiberglassing it (It was dry and safe to wear):

I also made this little gun :)

thanks! i've bondo'd and painted it and everything, but that was last year and I was rushed. I only had like a 2 weeks notice for me to make it for my friends halloween party, so it looks kinda messy right now. I plan on fixing it up some time.

that's really cool, I remember you posting those pics in the Post Real LIfe Pictures of Yourself topic ages ago. I didn't do Guy's helmet cuz that giant round visor would have been impossible for me lol

brickman and mod-man, what type of paper do you use when you printed that?

a type of paper called cardstock. its a lot thicker than regular printer paper so creased folds aren't so flimsy. its a lot cleaner/easier to fold with i think

yeah this. For bigger stuff I'd suggest the thickest stuff you can get. Even still with smaller stuff thickness can be good, but it might be a little harder to use on intricate parts. just never use regular printer paper.

I have a question, do all printers print on cardstock? I have a epson xp-410 and was wondering if it would print in cardstock, I don't want to damage my printer. Thanks.
