It would only in that the perpetrators could actually get caught, arrested, prosecuted, and thrown in jail for 5+ years per account of assault per afflicted person there.

Well stuff, this belongs in YCYL.
Anonymous was always about trolling and loving stuff up.
They happened to troll / forget stuff up for a few people that happened to be hated already, and everyone saw it as a good thing. So when 4chan went mainstream soon after, people just looked at those few events and started posting selfies of themselves with fedoras and guy fawks masks calling themselves "leet haxors" and that's what people today know the group as. ffs
