Author Topic: Just got a new 240hz 3D TV  (Read 1887 times)

So, I just got a good deal on a Sony 3D 240hz TV, and I plan on using it as my monitor. I have a Radeon HD 7770 GHz edition in my computer. Should I buy a new graphics card to drive the high refresh rate and 3d, or is this card fine for the job?

what

i used to have one
then it died a month or two later. piece of stuff

240hz is good, but 3D TV's have never been a useful expenditure of money but only for their image processors for that slightly sharper image.

This isn't a question we can really answer for you because we don't know what you're playing
Run an FPS counter program and see what FPS you get
Just know that you're not going to get 240fps on highend games on max settings without spending a few thousand on video cards

I'm not going to play anything ultra-high end, in fact, the most demanding thing I think I'll play is either Warthunder or DCS World

>3D

What a waste
I mainly got it for the refresh rate.

Like your eyes are going to see such a subtle difference.

It's just a waste of money.

incredible how easy it is to sucker people into wasting their money on big numbers lol

As a licenced IT guy, I can agree with this.

I'm agreeing with this. Nobody ever films in anything more than 60fps, and it's impossible to tell the difference between 70fps and 240fps. It's literally the most pointless thing ever. Worst thing is that I read somewhere that they actually cut corners in image quality to achieve that refresh rate. Take that with a grain of salt though; I don't know where I heard it and I can't confirm it.

It's more for games than videos.

Still it's a gimmick. The normal human eye cannot percieve any difference past 70-100hz. Therefore it's totally useless.

Films are like 24fps lol
Hell, when one of the Hobbit movies was played in 48 fps, a lot of people didn't like it

I really wish animated movies were in at least 45fps. It's so much smoother than 24.
And soap operas are regularly filmed in 60fps, for reference
