so can anyone recommend a recording software that

-can record decently
-is $80 or under
    -has a trial version if not free
-doesn't require admin privileges to run

when it closes it doesn't show up anywhere on the computer so i have no idea where to find it

have you chosen the directory to save the videos in yet?



well you should probably do that
obs is not popping up anywhere on my computer except the setup exe
and i'm locked out of my laptop so i can't mess with it right now

oh I thought you were asking about the videos
have you tried C:\Program Files (x86)\OBS (or something like that? whatever the default directory is unless you changed it)\OBS.exe

tried it right now and it was there, and now it's on my taskbar
what next?

Add in a video source of your monitor or whatever you're trying to capture. Add in overlays/whatever else you want. You can preview to look and edit how it looks.

Also OP, it will create the file as a .flv, if you need to convert it to another format, use this.
