Author Topic: So what's so special about 4K and 5K?  (Read 1776 times)

I know they're higher definitions, but it just seems like it requires much too high of specs, and you require like fiber internet (Google Fiber) just to get a good streaming.

Attempting to use either on my PC did absolutely nothing. Just lagged and didn't even show the video.

What's so great about those defs?

if your computer has the ability to run them the resolutions, it looks fantastic
i haven't done much research but i really don't see any other practical use than that

edit:

what do you mean by use them? did you try to watch a video in 4/5k or did you actually try to use your computer with that resolution?

Assuming you're talking about resolution...

If you have a huge ass monitor it looks crisp and clean.

its OK

haha guys i made a funny

This is for TVs, not sure how well it applies to ipads monitors and phones.

Here's the problem: if you try to use a normal OS with a monitor that huge, everything will be tiny.

EDIT: Oh forget, wrong thread. I meant to post it in the one for the new 5k iMac.

Notice my edit.

I would like to have a 4K screen. But there is no "decent" one worth buying for computer use right now. Waiting to see what happens next year.

I'd rather get a 10-bit deepcolor display than a 4K display. Apple should also use deepcolor displays rather than nonsensically-high-DPI displays.

On average, you will be looking at your information technology devices at a distance of under 3 feet.

define normal
hint: don't use the term "Linux"

File a bugreport ticket on the culprit programs saying to upscale the GUI elements after a certain DPI level if the GUI elements are tiny. From there, experts can trace the problem.

my gpu's maximum resolution is 2560x1600 (is it 2k?)

also with a 4k monitor, the need for anti-aliasing is gone. the pixels between different objects will be so tiny it is no longer needed at higher resolutions
