Laptop severely stuttering and freezing when playing Youtube videos.

I have no idea why this is happening. I am watching Youtube videos on Google Chrome on a decently powerful laptop running Windows 8.1, however every couple of seconds I play a video, my fans go into full gear and my laptop starts to freeze. This is a ridiculous issue that has been happening for a while now. What is causing this?
